I’ve been neglecting the blog for a while, but NOT because I’m playing Emil Chronicle Online. No, really, I’m not.
Anyway, what better way to end the summer than with a Taishou Era-like song featuring the Kagamine twins?
すずきP, who wrote siGrE, is a genius.
The cool thing about this song is that it features two PVs–
One is by ひよこまんじゅうP, who also did one of my all-time favorite PVs for Servant of Evil. To see ひよこまんじゅうP’s interpretation of siGrE, click here.
The other is by N魚P, which puts another interpretation on the song.
Arguably, I’d say the two PVs can actually tie together, but that’s my own personal opinion.
Now, what I find really cool is that there isn’t any competition or egos taking over, as both creators acknowledge each other, instead of doing the ol’ “Mine is the best in the world, yours isn’t! Ha ha ha!” thing that I see a lot in mainstream culture nowadays.
I think the advantage of “collaborative” sites like niconico and piapro is that everyone works together and can appreciate deviations and twists on a work. Harmony, or something like that.
To see what I mean, all you have to do is look at the descriptions of the respective PV pages. Even though N魚P’s PV came later, ひよこまんじゅうP put up a notice saying something like, “An amazing PV has been made, with a lot of sense!”, and linking to the other PV.
On the other hand, N魚P’s description links to ひよこまんじゅうP’s PV, noting it as a PV that, no matter how many times seen, can always inspire tears.
Where am I going with all this sappy harmony talk?
The point I’m trying to make is that, if people can support and work in harmony with each other, then GREAT things can come about.
Like this congratulatory PV that 12 famous artists worked together on to celebrate すずきP’s siGrE being indicted into the 殿堂 (which Rikai translates as “Palace” or “Palatial Building”). Basically, the Vocaloid 殿堂 is where really famous Vocaloid songs/PVs/etc. go, kind of like a solid set of Vocaloid classics.
I’m going to give a warning now, and it’s that, if you really think siGrE is amazing and you don’t want your impression to change of it, then you might reconsider watching the celebratory PV..
I still think the celebratory PV is amazingly..stylistic… too, though. If anything, it’s unique and shows that the artists had a good time working together.
…I still can’t get over Len’s face though. LOL. LOL. LOL. LOL.
There are a lot of things you can catch in the comments and in the PV itself that are hilarious, and really multiplies the enjoyment of everything, only a few of which are:
1. The toilet.
2. The ero books.
3. Apples.
4. “のせされてない” : a comment referring to, how in the beginning, the petals don’t fall into Rin’s palm at all.
The artists who worked on the PV include ひよこまんじゅうP and N魚P, and you can actually spot the “本家”, or originators, in the PV, like when Rin reads the news about Len (N魚P) or towards the end, when they both take a photograph (ひよこまんじゅうP). しうかP, the artist of the original song illustration, also contributed, along with other artists that are well-known on collab. sites like piapro and pixiv.
Edit: If you’re curious as to what each individual artist has worked on, there’s a mylist with links for each artist! siGrE Project mylist
You can see who did what and read the artists’ closing comments in te last few moments of the video, and it’s really fun seeing who did the deformed feet or blob-teared Len, etc., etc.
By the way, if you rewatch the original PVs every once in a while, you might catch 職人’s god-like comment artistry, like the orange lyrics in the congratulatory PV above. I know that right now, N魚P’s PV has a reeeaaally amazing 職人 who did an excellent job with the lyrics.
Edit: Actually, it seems like the 職人 is there to stay permanently, according to the “職人常駐動画” tag. Even so, catch the excellent comment artistry while you can!
After watching the suGeE congrats PV, you might want to take a look at the COMPARISON PV which somehow makes things even more hilarious.
